چکیده

In this paper, we consider minimizing the Mumford-Shah functional over two-valued functions in the plane. Existence of minimizers is straightforward and we show that the edge set of any zninimizer is a finite union of C curves.

Hierarchical image simplification and segmentation based on Mumford-Shah-salient level line selection

Hierarchies, such as the tree of shapes, are popular representations for image simplification and segmentation thanks to their multiscale structures. Selecting meaningful level lines (boundaries of shapes) yields to simplify image while preserving intact salient structures. Many image simplification and segmentation methods are driven by the optimization of an energy functional, for instance th...

A Two-Stage Image Segmentation Method Using a Convex Variant of the Mumford-Shah Model and Thresholding

Abstract. The Mumford-Shah model is one of the most important image segmentation models, and has been studied extensively in the last twenty years. In this paper, we propose a two-stage segmentation method based on the Mumford-Shah model. The first stage of our method is to find a smooth solution g to a convex variant of the Mumford-Shah model. Once g is obtained, then in the second stage, the ...

Automatic brain tumor segmentation with a fast Mumford-Shah algorithm

We propose a fully-automatic method for brain tumor segmentation that does not require any training phase. Our approach is based on a sequence of segmentations using the Mumford-Shah cartoon model with varying parameters. In order to come up with a very fast implementation, we extend the recent primal-dual algorithm of Strekalovskiy et al. (2014) from the 2D to the medically relevant 3D setting...

Fast Region Merging Algorithms for Image Segmentation

One of the more successful approaches to image segmentation involves formulating the problem as the minimisation of a Mumford-Shah functional and then using region merging algorithms to approximate the minimiser. Recent work by Redding et al. presented such an algorithm and demonstrated the quality of the segmentations it produces. Here, we extend that work in two ways. First, we describe a var...

Finite-differences discretizations of the Mumford-Shah functional

About two years ago, Gobbmo [21] gave a proof of a De Giorgi's conjecture on the approximation of the Mumford-Shah energy by means of finite-differences based non-local functionals In this work, we introducé a discretized version of De Giorgi's approximation, that may be seen as a generahzation of Blake and Zisserman's "weak membrane" energy (first mtroduced m the image segmentation framework) ...
